School children add voice to Shabanie- Mashaba Mine revival - Newsday: Everyday News for Everyday People

I grew up in this town.  It was a great place to live.  Most people would say but you didn't have the cinema, the disco or public transport growing up so what could have been great about that.  I say we shared joy, laughter, tears, and trials, we danced in our front gardens and back then you could walk pretty much everywhere.  We also had the same spirit that is being shown by these school children, the spirit of solidarity, awareness and love.  We also shared the responsibility of keeping Shabanie going not just the mine which employed our parents but far beyond the mine employees the people of Zvishavane had a respect for each other and an understanding that it wasn't just about the mine but the mine was a way for us to get to where we needed to go.  Take that away and you kill the whole town, you rob the dreams and shatter down hope.  The mine represented what was possible in Zvishavane and beyond.  This is truly a sad, sad situation.  Aluta Continua!!
